About Christin

By trade, I am a Speech-Language Pathologist employed part-time in a public school system in Mississippi. I am married, having just celebrated six years. My husband and I alternate between embracing our inner homebodies and yearning for adventures. We started off on the adventurous foot, honeymooning in London and have scarcely slowed down since. In contrast, home has remained the same for these past six years and looks to remain the same for many more. We don’t have children (yet), but I am proud big sister to three siblings far younger than myself. You’ll likely hear of them!

According to the MBTI, I am an INFJ with an introversion level of 75-95%. According to the Eneagram, I’m a 4w5 who happens to hate all things melancholy. According to Pottermore, I’m a Hufflepuff.

In my free time, you’ll likely find me with a cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other. I’m most partial to fantasy fiction and English period dramas. I don’t watch a lot of TV or movies, but when I do, it’s the same categories. Tolkien and Lewis have most of my literary heart. My home is the most English-cottage reminiscent abode I could find in Central Mississippi and I take great pleasure in trying to recreate a Cotswold garden on a shoestring budget and with renter’s limitations. I love to go for long walks and wring out at the end of the day with Yoga with Adriene. If you ask me where I want to eat, I’m going to tell you Mexican food or a pub. And if you could fly me some Ben’s Cookies, I’lll love you forever.

About the Blog

People often say that your interests will change as you age. I for one, have not found that to be true. A bookworm and anglophile from a very young age, I’ve found that my childhood and adolescent interests have mostly grown. The words you’ll find here are reflecting topics that I have been exploring and nurturing for many years – now, just in the new setting of adulthood.

So what will you find here?

First and foremost, you’ll find words related to my faith. As a Christian, I believe in the gracious sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the mighty love of God the Father, and the life changing guidance of the Holy Spirit. Raised Baptist, attending a Reformed church, and getting my daily readings from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, I consider myself non-denominational. My faith transcends labels and preconceptions. I believe in the concrete truth of I AM as well as the utter mystery of the spirit. I’m fascinated by saints and mystics as well as scholars and apologists who claim my faith. I don’t believe that Christianity and spiritualism are two things to be held in total contrast of the other.

And so, faith will form the backbone of most of what I write. Because I believe in the truth that is the triune God, I believe that truth permeates all aspects of life. And I’m endeavoring to find it in every aspect of my own life.

Whether I’m reading, writing, traveling, or living a quiet life at home, I’m seeking to do all to the glory of God. I’m seeking to remain awake to His presence everywhere and in everything. I’m striving to be moved to praise and thanks by my knowledge of Him.

So, what you’ll find will include notes and reflections on my own personal Bible study; books and stories; cultivating a simple life; engaging the world through travel; as well as poetry from my own pen and photos that provide a lens to my world.

You’ll see a focus on spiritualism and fantasy – authors such as CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and GK Chesterton. You’ll likely find that Britain gets special airtime. You’ll see history woven through my views on scripture, stories, and travel locations. You’ll see a quest for intentionality and simplicity, as well as spiritual, physical, and emotional health.

And all from the lens of an ordinary person. A married woman, pursuing a family life, working a 9-to-5 job in a small US town.

Because God is truly everywhere and in everything. I’m looking for glimpses of that truth.

Brew yourself a cup of tea and join me.

About A Happy Learner

As a high school student, I intended to be a secondary history and/or english teacher. At some point, the introvert in me won out and I decided to change career paths. Combing through a manual for the university I had already enrolled in, I discovered Speech-Language Pathology. I knew I wanted to teach and this seemed the perfect avenue.

Over ten years later, I’m an ASHA certified SLP in my sixth year at a public school. In my six years, I’ve worked with students aged 3 – 18. I started my TpT store in 2013 as Happy Speech Therapy and grew it over the next several years. I’m happily married to my best friend and fellow adventurer, Jason, who, with his graphic design prowess, helps ensure my products are professional and pretty.

We’re in the process of adopting our first child and hope to one day embrace the world of homeschool. Jason helps design curriculums for outreach programs and we’ve both been heavily involved in children’s ministry at church. Education is truly one of our passions and we hope to share that with you here. With the anticipated shifts in our life, as well as expanding interests and opportunities, we began rebranding in 2018, eventually creating A Happy Learner. I’m so excited about what it has the opportunity to become.
